At a time when other companies are scaling back cross-border operations, CFI sees an opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Joplin, Mo.-based carrier has been offering intra-Mexico and cross-border truckload services for 35 years, and to celebrate the milestone anniversary it has launched a major expansion of its capabilities and resources supporting shipments between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCFI is a proven, trusted and committed player in the cross-border market, providing first and last-mile less-than-truckload (LTL) and truckload services within Mexico,\u201d CFI president Greg Orr said in a news release announcing the expansion. \u201cAt a time when other truck lines are exiting Mexico, we are stepping up investment by building on our 35 years of experience to expand the quality and scope of services we can provide shippers on both sides of the border.\u201d

The entire Mexico operation will be rebranded as CFI Mexico, consolidating CFI Logistica and CFI Mexico Truckload.

CFI has seven consolidation and distribution cross-dock operations in Mexico \u2013 Nogales-Sonora, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mexico City, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro and Nuevo Laredo. At these sites, LTL shipments within Mexico are consolidated and routed into the U.S. for delivery. Similarly, shipments from the U.S. are routed to these cross-docks and broken out for LTL delivery within Mexico.

In 2019, CFI amassed more than 62,000 cross border shipments with Mexico with an additional 27,000 LTL shipments within the country, serving some of North America\u2019s leading commercial, industrial, manufacturing and retail businesses.

Chicago is the first of several North American C&D facilities the company will establish this year for shipments to and from the Midwest. It also plans similar facilities in Laredo, Texas, its largest gateway between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CFI will be providing the linehaul capacity for the project, which guarantees capacity will be available even when the market is tight.\u00a0

\u201cConsolidation and deconsolidation are long regarded as\u00a0highly effective supply chain waste reduction tools,\u201d said Jason Dekker, Director of International Business Development at CFI\u00a0Mexico.

CFI, a wholly owned operating company of TFL International Inc. established in 1951,\u00a0employs 2,350 professional drivers, nearly 500 of\u00a0whom have more than a million miles with the company.\u00a0It operates a\u00a0fleet of 1,850 company owned tractors\u00a0and 7,300 trailers\u00a0operating throughout the U.S. and Canada.\u00a0The company also\u00a0contracts with\u00a0375 leased independent contractors\u00a0and more than 80 C-TPAT certified carriers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
