To create the list, Forbes teamed up with independent market research company Statista to survey 50,000 Americans employed by businesses with a workforce of at least 1,000. Respondents were asked how likely they would be to recommend their company to others. They also were asked to nominate companies from industries outside their own.
The final list ranked the top 500 large companies featuring more than 5,000 employees, and the top 500 mid-size companies with workforces of 1,000-5,000.
