Cargo Transporters Second Pay Raise of the Year

A regional and national carrier, Cargo Transporters Inc., recently announced a second wage raise for its OTR drivers. On Sunday, the second salary raise will take effect. The first salary raise occurred in January of this year.

“We are committed to ensuring Cargo Transporters is a premier company to drive with, which means investing in our people. We are pleased to announce this second pay increase in 2021, totaling over a 10 percent gain in earnings for our essential workers, commercial vehicle operators. By providing strong pay, competitive benefits, and top-of-the-line equipment, we want to retain and attract the best talent in the industry,” Chief Operating Officer Jerry Sigmon Jr. said on the company’s news page.

Cargo Transporters is a true asset-based transportation company. The assets are under their control, and the drivers are direct employees. Customers deal directly with the people who transport their goods, not with a broker or an independent contractor. This enables businesses to better manage client demand, capacity demands, and equipment availability. They also deliver freight entirely on business trucks. No brokering or owner-operators.

On all dispatched miles, Cargo Transporters will boost single driver pay by 2 cents each Rand McNally practical mile, bringing the beginning base pay to 52 cents per mile. On all dispatched kilometers, team driver compensation will increase by one cent per mile. The productivity bonus will increase to 3 cents per mile in tandem with the increase in the rate per mile.

Cargo Transporter drivers are also paid extra for miles driven because the carrier calculates pay using Practical Route miles rather than the industry standard Household Good (HHG) shortest miles. Many trucking companies employ HHG shortest miles, however, Practical Route miles are on average 8% more expensive. Additionally, all drivers are eligible for holiday pay, vacation compensation, and a weekly productivity incentive. Cargo Transporters offer competitive salary, as well as late-model equipment and a comprehensive benefit package that includes a 401(k) with company match, health, dental, vision, life, short and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) with company match.

Cargo Transporters is a truckload carrier that serves the continental United States with roughly 500 trucks. The corporation is based in North Carolina and has terminals in Claremont, Charlotte, and Rocky Mount. Over 700 employees work for the company.
